At the same location since 1972, nestled near the corner of Clark and Diversey lies La Creperie. This cozy family-run bistro-style restaurant features casual French fare with a moderately priced menu of mostly crepes in addition to an impressive wine and beer list. The restaurant boasts a fun ambient feel with an uncontrived atmosphere, and the outdoor patio is amazing in the warmer months.

Sara and Germain Roignant founded La Creperie in 1972.

   Sara, a native of Joliet, Illinois, studied performing arts and she wrote, directed, and acted in several plays before she went on to teach abroad in France with the Alliance François. While on vacation in Germany, she met a charming waiter whose name was Germain, who was working in Germany for the summer.

   Germain's experience in the food service world started at the age of seventeen. He worked in a fromagerie in his hometown of Chateauneuf de Faou, a small town in the western French province of Brittany.

   Sara and Germain moved back to America together in 1965 where they wed in Chicago. They moved to California for a while where Sara taught school, and Germain studied food service at the City College of San Francisco. They returned to Chicago after having their first child, Marie Claire.

   They then lived in Lemont (IL) where Germain set to the task of creating the perfect crepe recipe in the basement of his in-laws house. During this time they had a second child, Jane Noel. Two years later, on June 1st, with two children, a fantastic crepe, and a lot of passion, Sara and Germain opened La Creperie on Chicago's north side. A one room, ten table bistro with a fireplace and plenty of ambiance. In 1974, they had a third child, Jeremy John, and at this time business was booming, so they soon added a back room and an outdoor garden.

   For 40 years Germain and Sara have provided Chicago with their wonderful crepes, in a unique and beautiful setting. They invite any and all to come and share their traditional western French cuisine and enjoy their vivid personalities in a comfortable atmosphere.
